I wrote this song with Danny and Sara Emily Berrios at their home in LA. It was our first time meeting - the first day of the two days we had scheduled. I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich when I first got to their spot and we talked about Nashville, music, and life.

We discussed at length feelings of being in the later stages of 'moving on' from an intense relationship. After going through the hardships of coming to terms with a relationship being over, one is left to battle a different set of challenges. Finding identity when not wrapped up in heartbreak and learning to acknowledge that you don’t know someone intimately like you used to. And that it's sad and scary to take that next step in your personal journey and let go of that 'identity wrapped in the bittersweet.'

Recording ‘What If I’m Happy’ was an intense and special experience. It was our first time working with Kyle Dreaden as our producer (we had been building a formidable relationship leading up to this, as he had been mixing some songs for us before). He really took us to a higher place those two days we were at Trace Horse Studios - we seemed to connect and speak to one another musically. All of it was super organic and in the moment... we rode the wave of inspiration unapologetically. I'll always cherish the weekend we spent recording these songs together.
